On April 8, 2000, I entered my first official ASFA Lure Coursing
event. It was sponsored by the Whippet Running Activities Group (WRAG)
and was at that same polo field in Roy where I was certified.
And I
won! I won first place in the Open Whippet stake. It was an
All Breeds event, so there were lots of dogs running. In the Open
Whippet stake, I was competing against other 12 dogs!

staring at.)
Freckles came in a close second. I had a total score of 291 and
Freckles had 290! Nice job Freckles!
Then I ran against the first place Field Champion Whippet stake winner, Socks,
for Best of Breed. But Socks was on the inside track and I
didn't see the lure turn in time. I swung too wide on that sharp
turn which made me fall behind. But I
still got the "bunny" in the end! (Sock's mom got to take
home a ceramic bunny! Then she ran against Rebar, a Ibezan hound and
won the Best of Field! Rebar and Socks were the only dogs to enter
the BOF. None of the Agfhans, Besinjis, Borzois, Greyhounds, or
Salukis wanted to run again. They don't get extra points, but they
do get extra prizes. For the BOF, Socks got a ceramic dog
cookie jar. Congratulations, Socks!)
The judges were Becky Kaluza, from Beaverton, OR, and Ralph Pikop from
Glendale, AZ.

Course Map
Preliminary run was clockwise, final was counter. BOB runoff was
clockwise. This course was originally 605 yards, but they extended
it to 700 yards!
